It then sends the audio and received audio thru that unique cable to/from the radio. The box provides some control over the audio levels and isolation. That will be a usb cable that goes from you pc to the box. The second part, which the signalink is doing, is getting the audio into and out of your radio for the ft8 signals. Not sure if WSJT will let you just connect to the radio without the audio going. They used to have a very supportive group and can help you get to talking to the radio. I have not used this software in years if you don't have anything right now its not a bad start. You can do that now while you wait and find some software that just controls your radio and work that out. So I would suspect (like my 991) that you would connect that usb civ into your radio. The icom box used to let you control multiple radios with that box. The PC connected to the box via RS232 (USB was bit yet a thing) and the other part went into the radio thru the civ connector. My old riggunner if I recall correctly, I had a box from Icom that went between the computer and the radio.
